This is the big one. Every Christmas jumper we have managed to track down, from the gentle Fair Isle your nan would approve of to the sort of thing that gets a room’s attention from twenty feet away. If you do not yet know what kind of Christmas jumper person you are, start here and find out.
The modern Christmas jumper has split into roughly three camps. There is the knit that is genuinely nice – cable, Fair Isle, a bit of lambswool, something you would wear in February and nobody would blink. There is the novelty knit, which exists purely to make somebody laugh and has absolutely no other ambitions. And there is the light-up, pom-pom, three-dimensional-reindeer-nose school of design, which is less a jumper than an event.
All three are correct. The only wrong Christmas jumper is the one that sits in the wardrobe because you bought it in a hurry on the 23rd. So have a proper look through, work out which camp you are in this year, and get it ordered before the good sizes vanish – because they always do, usually in the first week of December, and usually the one you wanted.
